Add a configurable help button to fields
Admins or system configurators want the option to add configurable help links directly to fields. This would give users access to field-specific explanations, make complex fields easier to understand, reduce repeated questions to administrators, and support customer-specific guidance where needed. Problem / Pain For some fields, an explanation of how they work can be useful when filling them out or using them for search. For example, full-text search fields allow a variety of operators that many users are unaware of, such as +, -, *, "", and others. Mouseovers and placeholders can only help to a certain extent because the available space is limited. Users should have the option to access field-specific help, for example through a configurable help link or ? icon next to the field name Impact / Benefit Users are less frustrated and can find relevant help much faster. Since the help link would be configurable, it could also be tailored to customer-specific needs, such as internal rules or documentation that are not covered by general help options such as Ally. Repeated questions to administrators could be documented once and made accessible directly from the relevant field. This would save time for admins and help users understand, e.g. what information belongs in a field how values from a value list should be used how search field operators can be used Similar behavior can already be achieved through customer-specific solutions (see example in attachment), but this requires additional effort and is less robust than a built-in, standardized configuration option. Example use case A user is filling out a metadata field and is unsure when a certain value should be selected. By clicking a help icon next to the field, the user can open a customer-specific explanation with input rules, value descriptions, or examples.
