Add a deep zoom image viewer for high-resolution images
Users want to inspect high-resolution images directly in 4ALLPORTAL with smooth deep zoom and pan functionality. This would make it easier to examine fine visual details in large scans or detailed image collections, while supporting performance-conscious and protected viewing. Problem / Pain Organizations such as museums, archives, or libraries often work with very high-resolution image files. The current preview resolution is not sufficient to examine fine details, and the current image viewer does not provide the smooth deep zoom and pan experience known from dedicated high-resolution image viewers, such as IIIF-based viewers. This makes it difficult to inspect detailed image content directly in 4ALLPORTAL. Impact / Benefit A deep zoom image viewer would help users inspect high-resolution images more efficiently and securely within 4ALLPORTAL. It should allow users to: Zoom and pan smoothly within high-resolution images Load only the image areas needed for the current zoom and pan view Help prevent direct saving of the full high-resolution image via browser options such as "Save image as…" This would make 4ALLPORTAL more convenient for users working with detailed image collections, while supporting performance-conscious and protected viewing. Example use case A botanic garden or herbarium manages high-resolution scans of plant specimens. Researchers need to zoom in on fine details without requesting the physical specimen or using an external viewer. A deep zoom viewer would allow them to examine these details directly in 4ALLPORTAL.
